Venice, Italy

The magical canals of Venice are a smooth 6 hour drive from our home in southern Germany. We’ve visited several times since living here and often combine our trip with a stay in Vicenza which makes for a pleasant long weekend excursion. What do we love about Venice? The narrow alleyways that lead to nowhere; gondolas gliding smoothly across the water; Carnivale and the crazy masks of the revelers; and the history of the Doges who ruled the place. There a few museums to bore the kids with and gelato and street vendors are ready to fill our stomachs. Sometime in the future we’ll make it to the Murano glass factory and visit the Guggenheim museum but for now, we think Venice is just about perfect.
