It’s good to be King

Versailles, France–Sunday is a great day for a family outing, even for the French! We drove from our hotel to the Palace of Versailles, the great imperial residence built by Louis XIV and the home of French kings for 100 years, until the French revolution overthrew the monarchy and made Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette about 1 foot shorter from the top. It’s winter time so tickets to the palace were a steal –buy one, get one free! This deal was only available online and we were able to buy our tickets online and print them at the hotel. We found that kids are practically free everywhere in Paris which is a nice touch when you’re traveling with extra bodies who really don’t care about palaces and castles and art museums. The free audio guide along with a downloaded Rick Steves podcast on my iPhone made the tour through the palace informative and entertaining.
