Nashville to Oklahoma. Sorry folks, nothing of interest here. We enjoyed a decent breakfast at the hotel–your standard cold cereal, boiled eggs, yogurt and coffee. There was a college baseball team eating with us; they looked really young and tired. And it was hot outside at 6:30am. I couldn’t imagine driving somewhere, playing a game in the heat, and then stopping at another hotel. But, they had some girls along for the ride so I imagine it’s not all that bad.
I remember doing this trip many years ago, but in reverse (West Coast to East Coast) at the beginning of our military career. A highlight then was the gas station stop. And it remains the highlight of this trip. Flying J, Love’s, Travel A…each has an irresistible pull that has very little to do with refueling the car. I think it’s a bit like Vegas. Neon lights, video game sounds, cash registers and an abundance of bad choices to make.
In one day, I managed to eat: 2 hostess cupcakes, 5 mini donuts, 1 starbucks drink, and 4 cups of hotel lobby coffee. This was in addition to lunch at Wendy’s and dinner at Panera Bread. At Panera I did my best to flood the body with healthy stuff: like greens, water and a little lemon. But, driving is hard boring work. And the brain wants a treat for enduring the boring. So, a chaser of Sees Candies seemed in order.
