Today, it just seemed right to pick up trash at the local park. Found a lot of strange-wonderful things: an old baseball, parts of a grill, a bed sheet…Spent a good deal of time lost in my own thoughts. And then, I came across this forgotten cross, tucked sideways into the bramble bush, “Marta Lopez 1955-2007.” So, that’s what we do. Go about the tasks at hand, join in the work of being community and reflect on what it means to live well. Anne Lamott posted this reflection today…”Tom Weston taught me decades ago that in the face of human tragedy, we go around the neighborhood and pick up litter, even though there will be more tomorrow. It is another blessed sacrament. We take the action and the insight will follow: that we are basically powerless, but we are not helpless.”
