So Long stained kangaroo

Posted on May 24, 2015 by Kristen

We’ve been tracking the weather report for the past few days hoping for clear skies and cool temps, a perfect environment for cleaning out the make-shift storage area under our house. In no time, Tim managed to pull out all sorts of containers … Continue reading →

100 Days of Light

It seems just about right that after a year of following bloggers and authors who’ve left the church (check out Rachel Held Evans and Barbara Brown Taylor)  that I’d find myself wavering in much the same way, but with small group studies. … Continue reading →

Woo Me

Posted on April 13, 2015 by Kristen

I confess, I’ve been a tease. It was an easy relationship to fall into: Barnes & Noble Booksellers seduced me with the tempting smell of fresh-brewed coffee mixed with a hint of vanilla, which seemed to say, “C’mon in. We’ll take … Continue reading →

the Palm Sunday Pony

Posted on March 31, 2015 by Kristen

I love Palm Sunday, the pep rally before the big game. Up the old stone steps we walk, an assortment of colored pencils in my daughter’s hands. With a tug on the wooden doors, a handful of children turn, holding … Continue reading →

Eat This Book

Posted on March 23, 2015 by Kristen

I’ve been in a bit of a reading frenzy this past month. It seems to be a pretty normal rhythm in my life. Every year, right about the time the forsythia blooms, I find that I’m ravenous for books. I … Continue reading →

Soccer-the beautiful game

It’s been a cold and wet winter in Pinehurst.Though compared to our neighbors up north, we’ve had it pretty mild. The kids finally started their spring soccer season this weekend. Although practices have been scheduled for the past 3 weeks, … Continue reading →

Greece Trip Itinerary

Tim’s completion of a year-long chaplaincy residency is the perfect time to celebrate. While Ireland still makes the top of our “Must Visit List”,  the draw of sunshine, water and an oracle or two made Greece our destination for 2018. After a visit to the library to check out every Greece and Turkey travel book in San Diego County, we settled on this 2 week itinerary:

  • Depart LAX for Mykonos (via Athens) ………stay Mykonos for 2 days with an excursion to the island of Delos….
  • Next stop is Santorini, the island famous for it’s blue-domed houses and deep blue waters. We’ll stay here for 3 days
  • Then, on to Rhodes, which once boasted the historical Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World. The monument may no longer be standing but the island is chock full cobblestone streets and fortified old towns.
  • From Rhodes, we’ll head over to Marmaris, Turkey. The primary draw for visiting Turkey is to get up to Ephesus but we found that taking a ferry to the southern end of the country offers a great deal on seaside resorts with rock bottom prices–so we’ll indulge in the island life for a bit. We plan to hire a private guide to tour Ephesus on one of our days in Turkey.
  • Finally, we’ll fly north to Athens and spend 3 days touring the crumbling landmarks of that ancient city.  The Acropolis, Agora and lots of temple ruins should satisfy the inner goddess in me.

Our big fat Greek vacation

Why a Moveable Feast?

It's the memory of a splendid place that continues to go with the moving traveler for the rest of life, after he has had the experience of it and gone away. Hemingway said to a friend..." If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast."
